Datadog Pricing + How You Should Add Custom Metrics

Datadog is not free, so we have to pay to use the service. Please read bit.ly/2voTEn6 to know what things will increase our billings and what is our usage limit.
Any other usage in https://www.datadoghq.com/pricing/ that are not included in the docs (example: APM, Datadog logs) will be billed using the normal price.

While host count is easy to get, custom metric series count is tricky. So, if you want to add custom metrics or add metric tags or add possible tag values, please:

before adding them:

consult to other engineers in your team and Backend-Infra team, for this you will need to prepare:

list of possible tag keys
estimated number of values for each tag key
use case(s) for each tag

after adding them:

check custom metrics detail (number of series, number of hosts), at least daily-check for 1 week after release, how-to: bit.ly/2HdC3kN
