RDS Minor Upgrade For Affected RDS instances

We got an email notification from AWS regarding security updates for RDS instances running PostgreSQL 10 and PostgreSQL 11.

Affected RDS instances in tvlk-prod(Discovery) -

Risk - RDS Instance might not be available until the upgrade complete. (We expect it to take a couple of minutes)

Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora with PostgreSQL compatibility are based on open source PostgreSQL and provide a managed database service where each database instance runs on its own dedicated EC2 instance. No clients can access these databases other than those explicitly permitted for that instance by the customer.

Action required - Amazon RDS has released new minor versions of PostgreSQL 10.9 and 11.4, which contain updates that address this security issue. Customers with existing PostgreSQL instances using versions 10 and 11 should upgrade to the respective minor versions 10.9 and 11.4.

Site Infra & Delegates Responsibility

Make sure all RDS instance maintenance window time match with upgrade window time.

Service Owner Responsibility

Check the upgrade batch schedule in [1] and make sure the schedule is ok for your service.Stand-by during the upgrade window time.

How and When -
Maintenance window for instances is set at mon:20:00-mon:20:30 UTC (GMT) weekly. Once changes done, It will upgrade db instances with latest update and reboot the instances at above mentioned maintenance window. During the upgrade these instances to be monitored and check whether the instances come up with latest updates and working fine.
