Weekend is here: for those who are staying in town, check out these two major exhibitions, both conveniently located in malls: Art Moments at Sheraton Gandaria City, an art fair featuring prominent and newfound contemporary artists both local and abroad with several interesting talks: https://www.artmomentsjakarta.com/ and Casa Indonesia at Ritz-Carlton Ballroom Pacific Place, an interior and homeware design exhibition (free entry!) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw9VaYJjwzc/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet. Why, you may ask, should we come to these exhibitions? They're not even a graphic design/motion design/advertising exhibition! Several reasons! Art Direction (and Creative Direction) means orchestrating every single elements in a communication to convey the intended message and these exhibitions are perfect opportunities to get ourselves immersed and exposed to fresh, globally-trending visual approaches that may inspire our design. if you're a writer, it's an opportunity to train your eyes and enrich your visual sense.
A few weeks ago, an image of Indonesian garment factory workers protesting Uniqlo because they didn't get paid for their labor circulated widely on the internet. Even a single instance like these could hurt a global brand like Uniqlo: it's a lesson for everyone who work for brands to always uphold its values. As a response to this, Fashion ForWords, an exhibition that critiques the fashion industry is currently held at Cemara 6 Gallery. Come over this weekend! https://www.instagram.com/_fashionforwords/
Ramadan is coming real soon. To welcome the holy month, Go-Jek is trying to repair its 'good guy' positioning (it has been a subject of complaints from both drivers because it reduced their commission and by users because of its bad CS) by erasing all of their Instagram posts to "start anew" and begin the month with only good things with their #HanyaKebaikan and #CariKebaikan campaign. A very bold move that creates conversation across social media and it would be interesting to see how the campaign develops over the month. Ever heard of the late Yasmin Ahmed? She's a legendary Malaysian TVC director/creative director of Ogilvy whose signature is touching, raw, candid films on human conditions. Make time to look for her Hari Raya films for Petronas on YouTube–we can learn a thing or two. P.S: we're lucky to work with her equally talented husband, Tan Yew Leong, for Flight Avocado Project <3
If you're planning to visit Bali (as a result of Epic Sale perhaps) this May, make some time to go to Future Design at Potato Head Bali https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw37qJknFCs/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link there will be talks, exhibition that focus on sustainability, and a rare opportunity to learn from (and party with) Virgil Abloh, designer and creative director whose label Off-White took the world by the storm and now sitting as the global creative director for Louis Vuitton Men.
