Minutes of Meeting Marketing Promotion x Content Engineering Alignment (November 17th)
Background:
- Current MCP tool & features is made generic and not tailored to the use-cases of promotion team, making it very difficult to operate (as it requires a lot manual steps), resulting in non-scalability of operational given growing complexities of cross-products and cross-countries
- There are several mishaps affecting promotional assets caused by some releases from content-eng There are urgent needs to improve the collaboration flow between marketing promo & content eng team in 2 areas:
- Improved collaboration flow for issues investigation and coordination amongst stakeholders during releases (where necessary)
- Improvement to features in MCP tool tailored specifically to promotion use cases, for easier and more automated navigation
Discussion notes
- Several identified pattern of error happened affecting promotion assets (as listed here) & how to ensure a better flow moving forward.
- As concluded by content-eng team, the errors should not be expected, or in other words all errors happened are the unexpected onesFor past errors, promo team will be sending the list to content-eng team for investigation to identify improvements/ optimization required for internal process flow within content-eng teamFor upcoming errors (if there is any), promo team can report it right away at #content-channel, PIC @content-eng-oncall will standby to resolve the issues immediately and produce the post-mortem file, for evaluation to define any prevention actions moving forwardAlso moving forward, promo team will get prior notice for any new feature affecting promo operational before content engineer perform the releaseIssue related to message tool can be reported on #mkt-tech-user and tag @user-eng-oncall
2. Accountability related to the overall MCP landscape
- Development and maintenance of MCP system (PIC: content-eng team)Data fetching from each product domain (PIC from each product domain, TBC)Build up use cases for the promo pages, design of the pages, operational to fill in content for the pages (PIC: promo team)Translation of use cases into MCP tool & features design (PIC: Merlin, together with Mar-tech)
Note: Merlin will soon having maternity leave (due is Jan 2018), replacement will be Dicky
- Page template creation of the pages using MCP (PIC: UIDev)
3. Deals page automation
- Currently there is only hotel deals page that is made more automated, while the rest is still executed with complete manuality It is possible for content-eng team to enable the automation of deals page, but with resource commitment from each product domain (product engineer)Last update based on mar-tech discussion with product, the sync need to happen between product marketing and product team on aligning the prioritisation of projects
4. MCP tool & features improvement
- Content-eng team has acknowledged the complexities of promo operational using current MCP features (which is not made personalised for promo use cases yet), and agreed to support promo team by developing tool & features that are more personalised to promo use-casesFollow-up meetings are required to further detailed down the use cases and improvements needed
