Location Detection is really helpful kalau homepage / landing pagenya punya content to display, jadi lebih relevant -- by understanding the user location, we can display most relevant content yg bisa engaging the users // I think previously same pattern / insight juga didapat di Dora ketika consume location sih

Pro : As mentioned above
Cons : Most of the users itu mnrt gua gak aware of the location detection, ibarat nya dulu gua kalau pesan Grab Food, misal location nya gua salah , gua gak akan change location dulu tpi gua akan still stick to the main needs / jbtd gua yaitu search makanan enak . This is why dulu pas Grab Food gak bisa change location di halaman review order mereka ini painful banget for users --> Kalau gua pribadi jadinya msti going back first to change the location then reoder the same food (skrg tp mrka sudah enable) . In short , I dont think changing the location detection is a common behavior for users sih

Combining location and search bar mnrt gua sbnarnya tricky bgt bu El, karena cons yg diatas, I think Google Search is one of the most frequent search yg kita pakai, and yet they dont have a location detection --> I think this indirectly set the bar kalau location + seach bar combo may not be a good approach

Pro: Autocomplete can be more relevant -- especially kalau kita gak dapat user location context through GPS e.g. ketika user search KFC di Eats, kita bsa kasi autosuggest KFC di Jakarta, karena location is being set as Jakarta . Mgkin also indirectly not calling every autocomplete , karena sudah ke filter sama location ini
Cons : Depending on the autocomplete logic , bisa jadi karena gua gak aware sm location search ini meanwhile kita limit the autocomplete logic, certain autocomplete itu gak keluar. Misal gua bound the search based on the province level, kalau gua cari resto Z yang ada di tangerang (secara location hirarki tangerang itu beda province sama jakarta) tapi karena org mikir tangerang = jakarta, mrka expect resto Z itu klwr. Tapi tidak. Solusinya kmrn kita bikin di level hirarki areanya yg kita perluas

Also prerequisite of this combination yg kita plajari sblmnya - the location setter need to be consistent throughout the flow sih, misal gua masuk search result change the location from X to Y, then when I went back to the homepage, the location should still showcase Y.

Loka sbnarnya moving forward have big tendency to remove the location search sih bu El haha. Karena our homepage structure mungkin gak prlu itu + unusual user behavior yg kita temuin diatas

Jadi personally I think combining location + search is not a wise move, karena hal2 diatas -- Karena its better to consume GPS / ask user location to get the objectives above.

Kalau tujuan dri punya location search itu untuk better curation merchandizing di homepage (misal enabling users untuk ganti location to see different things showcased di homepage), itu oke sih. Tpi visual UI nya yg mgkin beda aja (positionnya)

having user location thru detection only
pros:

having location + search bar combo
pros: same as above, addresses 1st con (if done well)
cons: if 2nd con continues, it has larger implication as users can’t find what they’re looking for

by any chance, did you guys consider having just one bar (like univ search or google), dimana user bisa masukkan location + search terms on the bar? (i.e. steak 21 cp)

Yap2 bu El kita considering sih kyak 1 single search yg bisa detect location from user input + bisa consume user gps / location to serve better autocomplete without any specific location search

definitely karena btuh proper assessment + investment sih bu El, project Loka nih masih ke - release things fast, then we learn sih
